Rema

1 / 16

Rema means small stream in Greek. There used to be many of them in the city of Thessaloniki but most of them were forced into underground pipes or they were totally blocked causing serious floods when the rain got heavy.

The Big Rema traverses the eastern part of the city, beginning from the hills of Seih Sou in Ano Touba and ending in the Thermaikos gulf. Its path crosses neighborhoods of different social statuses, empty lots, abandoned houses and factories, parks and playgrounds.

Between January 2015 and June 2016 I walked through it, in it and mainly around it, exploring photographically the ambience around its axis.
